STEELASTIC® COLD FEED EXTRUSION SPLICING UNIT

Cold Feed Extrusion Splicing Unit

The Cold Feed Extrusion Splicing Unit creates a continuous feed of rubber to cold feed extrusion systems. This solves the problem created by inconsistent amounts of rubber. If there is not enough rubber, it starves the extruder, but if there is too much rubber, it can also have negative effects on the extrusion process.

How It Works

The machine works by splicing two sheets of rubber to make a continual feed rubber to the extrusion process. As the end of a pallet of rubber feedstock draws near, the machine detects the trailing edge of rubber and automatically splices the tail to the leading-edge of rubber from the next pallet, which has been previously located in the machine by the operator.  When the splice is to be made, the feed conveyor stops and a uniform splice is made in a small section of the two sheets before production is resumed. The splice is made by metal fingers that punch through the material to reinforce the splice, providing a very strong splice that will not pull apart.

The Cold Feed Extrusion Splicing Unit can be added to any rubber feeding extrusion process. The semi-automatic functionality frees up the operator’s time as they do not need to be present at the moment when the rubber on the production pallet runs out.

Benefits of the Cold Feed Extrusion Splicing Unit

The Cold Feed Extrusion Splicing Unit enhances safety and quality by automatically splicing sheets of rubber feedstock.  It eliminates the need for operators to use hot knives and significant physical exertion to prepare and interlock heavy and awkward sheets of rubber. The device ensures a consistent and strong splice, with minimal overlap, providing a better quality end product.
